Wrinkles may be the badge of a life well lived, but nobody wants to actually look old. Fortunately, there are a number of hair style tips that can make a remarkable difference in your perceived age. The main thing is to flatter your skin tone and shape of your face, which is always essential to an attractive hair style. In this article I’ll discuss some fashionable hairstyles which can make you look years younger.
First of all, look at the contrast between your face and hair in some different light settings. It can be strange how different your hair and skin color can seem in sunlight compared to artificial light. So check your appearance while outside, in environments with florescent lighting such as grocery stores or offices, and in dimly-lit areas. Notice something? If your hair is a little too dark – even just a shade too dark – it can make you look older and more tired. It tends to bring out the color of the bags beneath your eyes, as well as any dark veins or spots on other areas of your skin. To correct this, consider lightening your hair several full shades. Alternatively, you could even get highlights, especially around the face. You’ll be amazed how much this will “lift” your look. Make sure to visit the salon regularly, however, because you don’t want your highlights to turn brassy.
Soft lines and soft volume are also important features of a more youthful look. A hairstyle which is very geometric can look wonderful on a young girl, because her neck and throat are still young. However, a very sharp and modern look will highlight the flaws on an older woman. Thus, try to achieve a soft shape in your hairstyle. If your hair is short & wispy, feminine pieces with plenty of volume will do the trick. If your hair is longer, consider short layers, especially near your face. This will add lots of movement and femininity. You’ll be pleased that such a small tweak can make such a big difference.
Bangs are also a fabulous way to make you look younger, as they can help camouflage furrowed brows and crow’s feet. Whether short, classic bangs or longer ones swept to the side, bangs can be very effective. You could even try different styles via clip-on bangs to find the style that you like. After all, bangs are notoriously awkward to grow out. If you get the right style for you, however, odds are that you’ll never go back. Long bangs add an element of mystery and sensuality, while bangs that are cut well above the eyebrows look smart and sassy. But again, beware of having a style that is too geometric. The contrast between sharp lines and a softer, sagging face can be unflattering.
Finally, a shorter hairstyle is an old standby for shaving years off your look. This is not to say you should run out the door and get a pixie cut, but you may consider cutting your hair to collarbone length, or even just above. Not only will this help you to look younger, but you will also save lots of time in terms of hair maintenance and styling.

How come women who want to look younger are empowered while the men who look at women who ARE younger are pigs?
My guess is bc these pigs look at older women and make the grossed out face. Much like me looking at fat, ugly, hairy, balding men… No thanks!
Just so we’re clear… that hairstyle? UGLY and old!!!
Bangs only look cute in SOME women, not all. Short hair and bangs I think make you look younger… but I’m not sure.
At some point, we all have to just shrug and go OK we’re old, let’s just rock it out anyway!
I’ve got hair halfway down my back, some long bangs, and some “face framing layers”. I’m almost 50, most of the time it’s either up, in a headband or a ponytail. The bangs don’t cover up any wrinkles or crow’s feet, not that I expected them to! I’m happy with every single one, I feel as if they’re a badge of honor from being a Mom. Rockin’ it out every day!!
your name fits
It’s the WAY older men look at younger women that makes them pigs (or dirty old men). Women like to look and feel attractive and approving looks from both men and women friends is a compliment. To be looked at with leering eyes is creepy.
Men, as young boys, are purposely conditioned by pornography to view women as sexual depositories for their personal use. Secondly, the pornography imprints into young male minds what a woman should look like to be awarded the “honor” of their attentions. Older women and others who don’t fit the stereo-type are not used for imprinting in porn. There are many financial reasons for doing this imprinting and none of them to the benefit of men or women.
Generationally men who are now “old pigs” were young when female roles were more restrained. Hopefully now that women fulfill many roles that are neither sexual nor support roles for men and children, this stereo-typing will be seen for what it is.
Our society as a whole has a problem with ageing. Pick-up almost any newspaper, magazine or even on the web and there are thousands of tips for women to make themselves look younger. Youth is plastered everywhere. As women our society expects us to look a certain way and always to remain slim and youthful. This is why as we age women are sometimes termed as old hags but men with graying hair and pot bellies are considered distinguished. A double standard that must change.
There are plenty of attractive women over 50 but they are hidden by society to present the 18 to 29 year olds. Our society needs to change as due to the media there are extremely high rates of Anorexia and Bulimia amoung women and as we age a womens self esteem plumets when she can no longer compair/compete with the young 20 something women on the covers of the magazines.
Lets see some of those lovely 50+ ladies modeling real clothes (not size 6) with real hair (not extensions) and genuine facial features (no Botox or Plastic Surgery, please)!
I have worked around a majority of men for several years. Maybe it’s because we are in the midwest, but they seem to have no problem enjoying the beauty of “older” women. I hear more comments about the young women trying too hard and worrying too much about appearance..
I have heard more than one man say that the sexiest thing a woman can wear is confidence.
Why does everyone say long hair is harder to take care of? My hair is the longest it has ever been and it is wash and go with just a little product to stop frizz. I have long loose waves and am constantly getting compliments.
If it is too warm or windy it takes less than a minute to put it up in a clip and it still looks good. I’m 43 and noone believes me so the hair must not be too ageing.
When it was short it seemed like i was always fighting with it, sticking up in the wrong places or just not doing what I wanted it to. Now it looks good whatever I try!
