A lot of women in their forties and fifties often complain about their weight because their slender frame is now a thing of the past. However whilst we all develop middle age spread to some extent, it is still possible to get rid of some of this body fat.
One of the most popular options for middle aged women is to go online and buy a good quality weight loss supplement. Articles about these supplements are always found in a lot of women’s magazines, and so they will always be very popular.
Many of them are made from natural ingredients, which means that they are unlikely to have any significant side effects. They will often state that you can lose anything between one and five pounds a week just by taking one of these supplements every day, and a lot of them do actually deliver on this promise if you try to lead a healthy lifestyle at the same time.
This last point is important because no diet pill is going to work if you continue eating junk food. Therefore you need to take a good hard look at your diet as well if you want to get rid of your middle age spread.
So you just need to cut out all the junk food and try to consume as few calories as possible during the day. Anything less than 2000 calories is ideal, and a daily diet of 1500 calories or less will certainly help you lose a few pounds.
You can either count the calories yourself, or you can subscribe to a diet food company that will deliver meals directly to you, which in total will always be less than a specified amount. If you don’t want to do this, then you just need to be sensible with what you eat. If you eat lots of fruit and vegetables, for example, and eat lots of salads instead of junk food, then you know that you will not be consuming too many calories.
So up until now I have provided you with two options – weight loss pills and/or a healthy diet. The final option is of course exercise.
Now I know that this is not something that appeals to a lot of middle aged women. This is probably why gyms are packed with men and women in their twenties and thirties on the whole, with just a small number of people older than this.
The fact is that it is a lot harder to do really strenuous workouts when you’re in your forties or fifties. You may have certain injuries that you need to protect, and you may not have the energy or the motivation to go to the gym any more.
Therefore you should try and think about doing less strenuous exercise instead. So instead of going down to the gym, you could go for long country walks instead or maybe take up a new sport that isn’t too demanding. The key is to find something that you enjoy that is going to burn a decent amount of calories. If you can do this, then you should find that you can lose a few pounds fairly easily.
Hopefully I have demonstrated in this article that it is not impossible to lose weight once you reach a certain age. Yes I know it is often a lot more difficult because your body is not as strong as it used to be, and your motivation for losing weight starts to wane, but many middle aged women still manage to lose lots of weight every year. So hopefully you can too.

Wow!!! Really take diet suppliment????!!!!! wow did you just randomly make this up?
Taking a weight loss suppliment is a bit extreme when most..not all BUT most middle age women can do and should do the obvious…watch thier diet and exercise..!!! If your not educated enough to speak at specific level than you should avoid offering advice you know nothing about. By the way I am one of those middle age women your are referring to and by working at watching what i eat and exercise I can testify it method works. Maybe not for all but it will work for a majority of the population.
i have an idea for an article i think many people would love to see: how to control your weight if you are confined. i dont mean prison, but being unable to walk very well. i am one of those. i can get up and walk to the kitchen 30 feet, or the bathroom 20 feet, but not much farther. i realize fewer calories will work, but i dont want to turn into a flabby puddle! i’m 51. i dont have access to an in-home physical therapist; medicare hasnt evolved that far. i’ve tried adding a few more steps to each walk to build up endurance. i failed, and i fell. took a week to get better. i’ve tried a walker and a wheelchair, but my arms are too weak to use them as a workout aide. i eat maybe twice a day at the most. on a good day i eat a frozen low-cal dinner and sugar-free lemonaide. on a bad day, i grab whatever i dont have to cook, like cookies w/pnut butter topping, and coffee. i love to cook, but my budget doesnt like the grocery store! pity party aside, i would love to see an article geared to help the helpless. thank you for considering this idea.
For Zan Darwin whose arms are too weak to handle a walker well. You could start doing arm exercises using cans of food as weights. The internet can show you various arm exercises. There are also videos of exercises that can be done sitting in a chair – Collage sells some.
From what I have read a good 45 to 60 minute relaxed pace walk, exercise bike etc is the way to go. Also somesort of top body exercises as well to slow down muscle loss and strengthen bones. I have been doing weight training most of my life and at age 58 have changed to a 20 to 25 repetition set per exercise at one set and move immediately to the next exercise. There are many examples of weight loss muscle resistance exercises on U-tube to watch for proper form and effectiveness. Kinda “Curves” mentality, keep it movin and metabolism up. I lost 30 pounds this way with only average care to what I ate. I’m not a real health freak. Just “think” before you put something in your mouth, is this really worth it? and sometimes cheating is mentally healthy, go ahead. Don’t deny everything. Just put think into what you put in. I can’t emphasis enough some sort of top body resistance exercise for a balanced workout and extra muscle feeding caloire burn muscles take from your body each day and keep them from adding up on your fatty areas.
I am very interested in what you have to say about weight loss. I have a physical job and work with a lot of beautiful girls. I only eat twice a day as well, but I need help to lose this weight. I am roughly 40 lbs. over weight and battle with two health conditions that hinder my metabolism. I have hypothyroidism and also diventiculosis.
I have always been 5’2.5 and always weighed 120. Now I weigh 164. I hate weighing this much. I want to be healthy, physically fit, and very attractive to my husband of 16 years. My mom always reminds me of how big I am, as well. Please help. Any suggestions will greatly be appreciated, as finding the correct answer that works will take a heavy burden off my heart. Thanks to all in advance and may God bless each and every one of you.
Lisa—I too have the same ilnesses as you and have found some answers on my own that I hope help you. First, let me say that I also have problems with gluten, so I cut out wheat, barley, and lentils as they cause a lot of bloating as does sugar and dairy products. And forget pinto and most other beans—they are the number one contributor of diverticulitis attacks for me.
Eating fresh, organic fruit and vegetables, pasta and rice (sometimes I add fresh cooked chicken, lean beef or pork to the rice and pasta) and limit salt intake. It’s helped me a lot, I have more energy and no digestive attacks. At almost 60, I feel better than I have in years!
Take good care,
K
I like taking Acai and Fish Oil for supplements. I would never take a diet pill!! Staying active in any way possible is crucial – and keep a log of it, if necessary. Drinking lots of water and green tea is good, and throwing out ALL sodas (nothing “diet” at all – too many chemicals) and things with white flour or sugar is a great thing to do – forever. Use smaller bowls and plates, and eat slower. Keep a food diary with a calorie count if you need to lose a lot of weight. Set a goal and reward yourself every week!
